Three Things Thursday Saturday – Better Late Than Never!

Yep, it’s Satursay afternoon and I am finally getting to my Thursday post…it’s been another busy week and blogging just was not a priority. But now that I’m back, I have some catching up to do!

Here are 3 random things that have happened this past week…

1. The kids and I went to visit my sister Kim and her family for a few days at their cottage. They live in Hershey, PA, which is about 8 hours from here, so we don’t see each other very often…actually, it’s been about 5 years since our last visit! It was the first time the kids met each other, but they had a great time and played really well together. Here are some pictures of our visit.

Ellie absolutely LOVED Tanner and was super helpful while we were there. This is Ellie’s first time holding and feeding a baby…lucky Tanner!

We spent the morning at the beach playing in the water and building sand castles. Super Fun!

20120714-161050.jpg

Well fed and happy kids! Pancake breakfast, ice cream cones and smores. Yummo!

Ryan didn’t actually eat a smore…but sure enjoyed eating all the parts separately!

2. I am so looking forward to Thursday…I am seeing the doctor again about my foot, and I am really hoping that she says I can take off this boot cast! I’ve had it on for 6 weeks, and I am so sick of it! I’m pretty sure that wearing it is messing up the rest of my body…my other knee is sore, my back…everything just feels out of whack!

I am supposedly to have it on for 3 more weeks, but my foot is actually feeling pretty good and the fracture sites don’t hurt anymore, so let’s hope it’s good news and I can start to work my way back into running and doing BodyAttack. Oh, and start to get myself back in shape…6 weeks of pretty much no cardio is not a good thing, I’m starting to feel a bit like a bowl of jiggly jello!

3. Since I finished my 40 Day Clean Eating Challenge, I have not been eating very well at all! I need to do something to get back on track…I’m thinking of trying a cleanse but have no idea how to go about choosing one. Any suggestions? It doesn’t have to be drastic – I’d actually prefer if it wasn’t- but I’m feeling really blah and feel like I need a bit of a body detox. If you’ve tried a cleanse with success, please share it with me. I’m going to do a bit of research this week and try to learn a bit more about cleansing…hopefully there is one out there for me!

Day 30

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 30 days! Despite a few slip-ups here and there, I’m quite impressed with how I’ve done so far. Sticking to something for 40 days is hard…only 10 to go!

Breakfast – in sticking with June’s Green Smoothie Challenge, this morning I had a Strawberry Kiwi Green Smoothie. To be honest, it wasn’t my favourite, maybe because all the fruit was fresh so the smoothie seemed a bit runny…I don’t know… Oh well, here’s what I put in it

3 cups baby spinach
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 kiwi
1 cup almond milk
2 tbsp ground flax

Lunch – an Almond Butter Wrap. In a rush, with not much in the fridge, this was all I could come up with. 1 tbsp Almond Butter on a small Whole Wheat Wrap. Sorry, no picture…totally forgot as I scrambled out the door!

Dinner – leftover Steak with a Slice of Cheddar Cheese and 7 Kashi Pita Crisps – Zesty Salsa

Dinner – Green Smoothie #20 – Strawberry Grape
. Since I was still full from lunch, dinner was going to be a Green Smoothie and a leftover piece of steak…after the smoothie, I didn’t have room for steak, so dinner just ended up being a smoothie, good think I added a scoop of protein to it!

Ingredients:
2 cups baby spinach
1 cup green grapes
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 tbsp hemp hearts
1 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp ground flax

20120620-082426.jpg

Snack – 9 Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds – I just needed a little something…maybe it’s because I didn’t have a proper dinner…who knows, but these almonds sure hit the spot!

Three Things Thursday!

This weeks three random things are…

  1. We are attempting to grow a “garden”. We’ve planted a bunch of veggies in pots and planters on our deck in hopes of eating some home grown vegetables this summer. We’ve decided to start small since we have absolutely no idea what we are doing! Here’s what we’ve planted…

Fresh Herb Pot – including Basil, Parsley, Oregano, Thyme, and Cherry Tomatoes

    20120531-131641.jpg

Peppers – Sweet Heat, Habanero, and Sweet Orange

    20120531-131652.jpg

A Lettuce Basket with a bunch of different types of lettuce

    20120531-131723.jpg

    Beefmaster Tomatos

    20120531-131728.jpg

    Onions and Cucumbers

    20120531-131741.jpg

    And Cauliflower

    20120531-132737.jpg

If you have any tips on how to grow a successful veggie garden, I’m all ears!

  2. Tomorrow is the beginning of the Green Smoothie Challenge hosted by Amanda over at Run to the Finish. The challenge is to drink one green smoothie a day for the month of June. Since this ties in so well with my Clean Eating Challenge, I figured it might be kinda fun. I’ve never had a green monster before! I’ve already planned out tomorrow smoothie…I’m going with the Easy First Time Monster (also posted by Amanda), it’s suppose to be so yummy you’d never know there was spinach in there…I will let you know how it goes! Since I plan on having it for breakfast, I’m going to add a scoop of protein powder so it holds me over til lunch.
  3. I’m absolutely loving my Trigger Point Foam Roller. Its like having a daily massage! I picked it up last week and have been using it regularly since Sunday’s half marathon. I’ve managed to work out all the knots that lingered after the race and now I’m pretty much just using it as a stretching aid and to work out any kinks that pop up! I love that it has bumps and ridges to really dig into those muscles!
